Survival Kit Introduction

Firstly, can I state that we do not sell survival kits for emergency preparedness and disaster preparedness from this website, nor are we affiliated with any sellers of survival kits or the red cross survival kit. If you have come here looking to buy a survival kit from this website then please accept our apologies. But, if you'd like to know more about survival kits and emergency preparedness before you buy then you've come to the right place to find out exactly what you need in a survival kit, and we hope to point you in the right direction where you can get what you need.

So, you're thinking about investing or making a survival kit? There are so many survival kits for emergency preparedness of different types to choose from it's difficult to sift through the mountain of personal survival products now available to you. In this website you'll find a few survival kit ideas to help you along.

Before you go ahead and buy any survival kits however, you should consider carefully what you need the survival kit for. By looking at the type of emergency preparedness threats you face you will be able to determine what your disaster response should be what type of survival kits or emergency kits you need.

For example, the types of emergency preparedness plans we need to have in place would require varying survival kits in terms of content and mobility. You will need one or more of the following:

           Earthquake Survival Kits
           Bird Flu Survival Kits
           Hurricane Survival Kits
           Tornado Survival Kits
           Civil Unrest Survival Kits
           Terrorist Threat Survival Kits

All these situations require emergency preparedness specific to the nature of the situation they represent.

     Survival Kits for Earthquakes

Whilst residents of earthquake zones are usually aware of the risks which surround them, they have no time to respond except to take immediate personal safety into consideration. All emergency preparedness and disaster preparedness plans focus on training, drills and the enforcement by law (such as building codes).

The Survival kits for this type of disaster preparedness should at least include emergency preparedness contact numbers, first aid supplies, clothing and bedding, tools, some cash and special items for medical conditions.

Survival Kits for a Bird Flu

Bird Flu is a global issue and this type of emergency preparedness involves all people in all countries to get involved. A pandemic is not limited to localised areas. Businesses cannot assume other branches elsewhere will be able to assist. We will have some warning before the pandemic reaches us, especially if you live in an isolated area and not in South east Asia. There will be time to implement whatever emergency preparedness plans are on standby.

The survival kit for this type of emergency preparedness would include doctor or Government contact numbers, face masks, hand disinfectant, thermometer, disinfectant spray, medicine (if available) and in some cases, personal protective equipement. Please be sure at least these items are included if it's a bird flu pandemic survival kit you wish to buy.

Survival Kits for Hurricanes and Tornadoes

Hurricanes and Tornadoes are regional and give us from at most a day or two (in the cases of hurricanes) to just moments to initiate any disaster preparedness such as in the case of hurricanes, securing windows with type and tying down loose objects.

If you are in areas prone to this extreme weather, emergency preparedness should include a survival kit which contains at least a weather and emergency contact numbers, first aid supplies, clothing and bedding, tools, some cash and special items for medical conditions.

Survival Kits for Terrorism Attacks and Civil Unrest

Finally terrorism and civil unrest are usually extremely localised and come with little or no warning whatsoever so again emergency preparedness must be well in place and intrenched in society before disruption can be minimsed, and we are still a long way off from that.

Emergency preparedness must come from Governnment down, however individuals should keep at their homes and work a survival kit which includes first aid supplies. A survival kit idea would be to include a gas mask. If there is a Government warning such that gas masks could be needed you won't be able to find one anywhere, so you need yours well before that happens.

So what kind of survival kits are there to suit what kind of emergency preparedness? Now you have a better idea of your requirements, let's take a look at all three:

Outdoor survival kit
